Tourist Visa



If you wish to travel to Ethiopia for tourism and/or a visit, you will require a tourist visa. The only exceptions are nationals from Djibouti and Kenya and travelers who arrive at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for a connecting flight.

  • Until further notice, the Embassy will only be processing Diplomatic and Service Visas by appointment only.
  • All other routine visas should be applied for by post, online, or on arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
  • Tourist Visas for Holders of Eritrean Travel Documents – Effective 3 July 2019, all holders of Eritrean travel documents will be permitted to apply for tourist visas in person at the Embassy by appointment ONLY.

Acceptable payment methods: Money Order or Certified Check ONLY. Any means other than those stated, cannot be accepted. The processing fee is non-refundable.

All visitors to Ethiopia, with the exception of nationals from Djibouti and Kenya, are required to apply for a visa. See for further information. Travelers who arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to catch a connecting flight to an onward destination do not require a visa.
An appointment is not required. Please submit your application at any time during the Consular working hours.
It takes up to 3 working days to process a visa application. Postal applications take longer to process.
We accept payment by card only. No cash is accepted. Please review the Table of Fees for further information.

e-Visas are administered by the Main Department of Immigration and Nationality Affairs in Ethiopia. You may check e-Visa status online at www.evisa.gov.et. Once e-Visa is approved, an approval letter is sent directly to your email address.
